2015 Tour of Utah - STAGE 6
Stage 6 was a killer. The Queen Stage and highlight of the Tour. Five hours long, 110 miles and 13,000 vertical feet of climbing. Brutal. The race started in downtown Salt Lake at the Rio Grande Station. After a short neutral start, the race proceeded up Emigration Canyon to the first KOM (King of the Mountains) at Little Mountain followed by fast, short descent and the steep hairpin turn laden climb to Big Mountain for the 2nd KOM. This was followed by a fast descent down to East Canyon reservoir. The routed then rolled along the water’s edge then up a short steep climb and down to Henefer, Utah. What followed next was a procession past Echo & Rockport reservoirs, then a climb up Brown’s Canyon to Park City, Sever headwinds slowly beat down the riders stamina along this section. Next up is the steep climb up Guardsman’s Way for the 3rd KOM. The backside consisted of a very technical high speed descent into Big Cottonwood Canyon where the riders hist speeds of 65 mph! After the long descent the riders turned south to start the fear ascent up Little Cottonwood Canyon for the finish at Snowbird Ski Resort. At this point, the peloton had fractured into numerous small groups of riders struggling to make it up the climb to the finish. Dombrowski of Garmin Cannonade broke free on the climb to with a convincing solo win.
