2016 Tour of Utah - Stage 5
Stage 5 of the 2016 Tour of Utah paced the riders over a diverse series of landscapes today. Race start was held out on Antelope Island State Park featuring a short loop on the island before heading onto the causeway across the Great Salt Lake. Unfortunately, recent brush fires on the island kept the bison and antelope herds sheltered away from the racers. After leaving the island, the route headed north then east up over the steep category 2 climb of North Ogden Divide. After a fast descent into the town of Eden, the riders rode south through farmlands abutting Pineview Reservoir. Next they tackled the Trapper’s Loop climb followed by a screaming fast descent then turning left along the foothills heading towards Bountiful City. As the riders approached Bountiful, they turned east up the very steep climb to Bountiful Bench followed by a fast descent to the finish line in downtown Bountiful. They repeated this short loop one more time. The day’s breakaway had been caught and the fans lining Main Street were treated to a high speed, hard fought bunch sprint won by Kiel Reijnen (Trek Segafredo).
