Yesterday was the big finale to this year’s Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. A change this year was to terminate the race with a circuit course around the Capitol Building and the Avenues neighborhood. Racing started just east of the Capitol grounds, then headed north & east above Memory Grove over to 11th Ave. Then they rode east along 11th for a very fast 50-60 mph descent down Virginia Street to Reservoir Park. Circling around the park, the riders turned west down South Temple Street culminating with the steep climb up State Street back to the Capitol. They rode this course for 11 laps and a total of 73 miles.
The racing was wicked fast and the riders suffered greatly every time they had to climb State Street. Marco Canola of the Italian/Japanese team Nippo-Vini Fantini surged ahead to take the day’s win. Rob Britton of Rally Cycling held onto the Yellow Jersey to take the race overall win.
